Frequently asked questions

How long should my hair be for my wax service?

Your hair should be about the length of a grain of rice hair or 2 to 3 weeks of hair growth from your last shave.

How should I prepare for my wax service?

We ask that you clean the area to be waxed prior to your appointment. Do not use any lotions or creams prior to the wax service because it could prevent the wax from adhering to the hair in the way it needs to.

Exfoliate the area 48 hours before your service to remove any dead skin cell build up that may interfere with your wax. We want you to have the best results possible!

How often should I wax?

It varies per person, depending on personal hair growth, skin routine, and genetics, but as a general rule, we recommend every 4-6 weeks.

Does waxing at The Waxarie hurt?

Waxing is definitely not the most comfortable thing you will ever do, but with regular sessions & proper homecare, the discomfort lessens over time. The discomfort is low enough that you will be able to go back to performing your regular daily activities.

Can I shave between waxing visits?

Shaving between visits is not recommended, as shaving will cause hair to grow back thicker. Waxing regularly will cause hair to grow back thinner and sparser over time, so regular waxing is recommended from your visit appointment onward.

Can I wax at The Waxarie if: I am pregnant, I have hemorrhoids, or I am on my cycle?

Though both menstruating and pregnancy can cause skin to be more sensitive during the waxing process, you may be waxed with all of the above conditions.

For the safety of both our staff and clients, during menstruation, you must wear either a tampon, a menstrual cup, or a menstrual disc.

Hemorrhoids are a common occurrence and waxing can be done easily and safely even when they are present. Your waxer will take the proper measures to ensure this.

Is there a minimum age requirement to wax at The Waxarie?

No, but children under 18 must have parent/guardian consent and parent/guardian must be present at first visit. Bikini & Brazilian services are restricted to those 16 years of age and older in accordance with Maryland Law.

What are the after-care instructions for waxed areas?

We recommend you wear loose clothing and avoid lace for the first several hours following your appointment. You should keep freshly waxed areas moisturized and clean. You may begin exfoliation 24 hours after the appointment, depending on your own comfortability.

Avoid excessive sweating, hot showers and intercourse for 24-48 hours because your pores are open following a waxing procedure.
